About Steven Upritchard

I'm a software engineer based in Wellington, New Zealand. I've been writing code for 30 years — it started when I found a book on artificial life in a university engineering library while taking a study break from molecular genetics. I went home, learned C++ on a 486, and built an evolving ants game. That was it.

I currently work for Squiz as a senior frontend developer, building websites and leading a team. Outside of work I make games, generative art, and AI tools — mostly things that started as an itch I needed to scratch.

I also teach acroyoga in Wellington. I've been practising since 2017 and teaching since 2020. I love the communication of it — the physical and verbal conversation between people figuring out how to move together.

I also make music — mostly jams and playing with friends — as Solutions from Crystals.
